Abstract
The invention encompasses compositions containing an iodinated contrast agent and a substituted cyclodextrin wherein the cyclodextrin stabilizes the contrast agent against degradation by ultraviolet or visible light exposure.
Claims2
An aqueous pharmaceutical composition comprising:
- an iodinated contrast agent;
- a pharmaceutically acceptable buffering agent;
- and
- a substituted cyclodextrin present at a contrast agent:
- substituted cyclodextrin mole ratio from 1:0.01 to 1:2;
- wherein the composition has a pH of 5 to 8 and wherein the composition exhibits at least a 3% reduction in formation of iodine species when exposed to ultraviolet light as compared to a corresponding composition, without a substituted cyclodextrin, exposed to the same UV light.
