Ophthalmic formulation for topical use containing helenalin, 11a,13-dihydro helenalin and flavonoids from arnica montana extract and sodium hyaluronate, and use thereof by humans to treat dry eye syndrome

Abstract

The present invention relates to the field of biotechnology and medicine. The invention consists of a formulation for topical ophthalmic use that contains Helenalin, 11-α, 13-dihydrohelenalin and flavonoids from Arnica Montana extract in combination with sodium hyaluronate for the primary treatment and/or as an adjuvant of dry eye syndrome in humans. Dry eye syndrome is one of the most commonly observed clinical conditions worldwide with an estimated population occurrence of 9-30%. In addition, Dry Eye Syndrome has very pertinent inflammatory and oxidative aspects which require diverse strategies to help in its treatment. The availability of a formulation which has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties in addition to a lubricating function is of great interest to the scientific and medical community.
