Abstract
The disclosure is directed to an efficient single-handed ligation device comprising a variety of mechanisms incorporated with a surgical laparoscopic cannula for use in tightening a suture knot within the body.
Claims20
A single-handed ligation device for tying a suture around a selected body tissue, said device comprising:
- a suture having a proximate end and a distal end containing a suture loop and a suture knot external to the device, an elongated cannula extending axially between a proximate end and a distal end, the distal end having a tapered end containing a distal orifice sized to provide passage for only the suture, a cap having an open end fixedly attached to the proximate end of the cannula and a closed end containing a slot and at least a first cap fulcrum hole and a flange encircling the cannula, a plunger having a distal end opposite a proximate end having a knob, the distal end being sized for axial movement through the slot and proximate end of the cannula, the plunger having at least a first plunger fulcrum hole at the distal end, wherein the suture can be configured to provide a plurality increasing suture leverages.
