Abstract
A plant cutting device comprising: a mount arranged to couple to a vehicle; a power source fixed to the mount, the power source being arranged to generate a torque; a cutter housing; a cutting member extending radially outwardly from the cutter housing and arranged to cut vegetation due to rotation of the cutting member; a skid arranged to contact a ground surface, and a bearing arranged between the cutter housing and the skid such that the skid is rotatably coupled to the cutter housing by the bearing, wherein the cutter housing comprises an annular lip extending downwardly at a location radially outside the bearing.
Claims18
A plant cutting device comprising:
- a mount arranged to couple to a vehicle;
- a power source fixed to the mount, the power source being arranged to generate a torque;
- a cutter housing;
- a cutting member extending radially outwardly from the cutter housing and arranged to cut vegetation due to rotation of the cutting member;
- a skid arranged to contact a ground surface, and
- a bearing arranged between the cutter housing and the skid such that the skid is rotatably coupled to the cutter housing by the bearing,
- wherein the cutter housing comprises an annular lip extending downwardly at a location radially outside the bearing,
- wherein the skid has a bowl-shaped outer surface that is axisymmetric about a first axis.
A suspension system for a plant cutting device, the suspension system comprising:
- a frame mount arranged to couple to a vehicle;
- a cutter mount arranged to couple to a plant cutting device, the cutter mount being arranged at a lower level than the frame mount;
- and
- an adjustment system coupled between the frame mount and the cutter mount, the adjustment system comprising:
- a first adjustment mechanism coupled to the frame mount at a first point and to the cutter mount at a second point, and arranged to allow a first vertical distance between the first point and the second point to vary;
- and
- a second adjustment mechanism coupled to the frame mount at a third point horizontally spaced from the first point and to the cutter mount at a fourth point horizontally spaced from the second point, and arranged to allow a second vertical distance between the third point and the fourth point to vary;
- wherein the adjustment system is arranged to prevent horizontal displacement of the cutter mount relative to the frame mount.
A suspended plant cutting system comprising:
- a suspension system for a plant cutting device, the suspension system comprising:
- a frame mount arranged to couple to a vehicle;
- a cutter mount, the cutter mount being arranged at a lower level than the frame mount;
- and
- an adjustment system coupled between the frame mount and the cutter mount, the adjustment system comprising:
- a first adjustment mechanism coupled to the frame mount at a first point and to the cutter mount at a second point, and arranged to allow a first vertical distance between the first point and the second point to vary;
- and
- a second adjustment mechanism coupled to the frame mount at a third point horizontally spaced from the first point and to the cutter mount at a fourth point horizontally spaced from the second point, and arranged to allow a second vertical distance between the third point and the fourth point to vary;
- wherein the adjustment system is arranged to prevent horizontal displacement of the cutter mount relative to the frame mount, and
- a plant cutting device coupled to the cutter mount, the plant cutting device comprising:
- a power source fixed to the mount, the power source being arranged to generate a torque;
- a cutter housing;
- a cutting member extending radially outwardly from the cutter housing and arranged to cut vegetation due to rotation of the cutting member;
- a skid arranged to contact a ground surface, and
- a bearing arranged between the cutter housing and the skid such that the skid is rotatably coupled to the cutter housing by the bearing,
- wherein the cutter housing comprises an annular lip extending downwardly at a location radially outside the bearing, and
- wherein the skid has a bowl-shaped outer surface that is axisymmetric about a first axis.
