Abstract
Spectrum allocation in non-terrestrial wireless networks is efficiently and intelligently managed by predicting traffic loads for beam cells using historical network traffic data and a trained model. Beam cells with higher predicted traffic loads are assigned larger spectrum bandwidths, while other beam cells are assigned smaller, non-overlapping bandwidths that dynamically change frequencies according to a predefined hopping sequence. Example solutions disclosed herein optimize bandwidth utilization and minimize interference, enhancing service quality and coverage in satellite communication systems.

A method for non-terrestrial wireless network communication, comprising:
- storing historical network traffic information associated with a geographic area within which a non-terrestrial satellite is expected to provide a set of beam cells during an upcoming time period,
- wherein the historical network traffic information includes historical traffic loads for prior beam cells provided within the geographic area via one or more other non-terrestrial satellites;
- identifying a subset of beam cells within the set of beam cells provided by the non-terrestrial satellite based on the subset of beam cells satisfying a threshold inter-cell distance from one another;
- predicting a traffic load for each of the subset of beam cells associated with a duration in which each of the subset of beam cells is provided by the non-terrestrial satellite within the geographic area,
- wherein the traffic load for each of the subset of beam cells is predicted based on the historical network traffic information using a trained model;
- configuring a first beam cell of the subset of beam cells with a first spectrum bandwidth based on the traffic load predicted for the first beam cell being compared to respective traffic loads predicted for other beam cells of the subset of beam cells;
- and
- configuring the other beam cells of the subset of beam cells with respective second spectrum bandwidths that are each smaller than the first spectrum bandwidth,
- wherein the respective second spectrum bandwidths for the other beam cells are non-overlapping with one another, and wherein a second spectrum bandwidth associated with a given one of the other beam cells is configured to change to different frequencies over the duration according to a hopping sequence assigned to the given one of the other beam cells.
A system comprising:
- at least one hardware processor;
- and
- at least one memory storing instructions that, when executed by the at least one hardware processor, cause the system to perform a process comprising:
- identifying a subset of beam cells within a set of beam cells to be provided by a non-terrestrial satellite within a geographic area, the subset of beam cells being located less than a particular inter-cell proximity from one another;
- predicting, via a trained model, a traffic load for each of the subset of beam cells based on historical network traffic information stored for the geographic area;
- and
- configuring each of the subset of beam cells with one of a static spectrum bandwidth or a dynamic spectrum bandwidth based on the traffic load, wherein the dynamic spectrum bandwidth for any given one of the subset of beam cells is smaller than the static spectrum bandwidth, and wherein the dynamic spectrum bandwidth for a particular beam cell is configured to change over time to different predefined frequencies according to a hopping sequence.
A method for a non-terrestrial satellite for a mobile telecommunications network, the method comprising:
- determining, by at least one processor onboard the non-terrestrial satellite, that the non-terrestrial satellite is approaching a geographic area within which the non-terrestrial satellite will provide a set of beam cells;
- receiving, by the at least one processor onboard the non-terrestrial satellite from a remote station, a bandwidth configuration for each of the set of beam cells, wherein the bandwidth configuration assigns either a first spectrum bandwidth or a second spectrum bandwidth that is a portion within the first spectrum bandwidth to each of the set of beam cells;
- and
- causing, by the at least one processor onboard the non-terrestrial satellite, the set of beam cells to be deployed within the geographic area according to the bandwidth configuration for each beam cell for a duration that the non-terrestrial satellite passes over or by the geographic area.
