A method including illuminating a diffuser with a light beam from a light source; transmitting the light beam through the diffuser to produce a bundle of rays of light exiting the diffuser with an angular spread; imaging the diffuser onto a transmissive or reflective spatial light modulator through relay optics; illuminating the transmissive or reflective spatial light modulator with the bundle of rays of light exiting the diffuser; sampling the light beam exiting the diffuser by reflecting a fraction of the light beam toward a detection system using a sampler; directing sampled light to the detection system at a sampled aperture plane; measuring an intensity distribution of the sampled light across the sampled aperture plane using one or more photodetectors of the detection system; analyzing the intensity distribution with an analyzer to detect an anomaly; and generating a signal when the anomaly is detected.
A method of monitoring a state of a diffuser in an optical system, the method comprising:
A method of operating a transmissive or reflective spatial light modulator of a projector comprising a depolarizer being installed at an aperture plane so that light transmitted to the transmissive or reflective spatial light modulator of the projector has no preferential polarization direction, wherein a detection system comprises one or more detectors, the one or more detectors being coupled to an analyzer, the method comprising:
