Abstract
Systems, apparatuses, and methods related to a virtual machine register in a computer processor are described. For example, a memory coupled to the computer processor can store instructions of routines of predefined, non-hierarchical domains. The computer processor can store, in the virtual machine register, an identifier of a virtual machine for which the processor is currently executing instructions in a current domain in the set of domains. For example, the processor can implement resource restriction/mapping and/or perform address translation for the virtual machine based on the identifier stored in the virtual machine register.
Claims20
A device comprising:
- a memory;
- and
- a processor, wherein the processor comprises:
- a memory management unit, and
- a virtual machine register, wherein the processor is configured to:
- generate address translation information based on an identifier of a virtual machine stored in the virtual machine register,
- translate, using the memory management unit and the address translation information, virtual addresses to physical addresses of the memory, and
- select a setting from a security configuration to control access to a memory region specified based on the translation.
A method comprising:
- storing, in a virtual machine register configured in a processor, an identifier of a virtual machine for which the processor is currently executing instructions in a current domain;
- generating, by the processor, address translation information based on the identifier stored in the virtual machine register;
- translating, using a memory management unit of the processor and the address translation information, virtual addresses to physical addresses of a memory;
- and
- selecting a setting from a security configuration to control access to a memory region specified based on the translating.
An apparatus comprising:
- a memory management unit;
- and
- a virtual machine register, wherein the apparatus is configured to:
- store, in the virtual machine register, an identifier of a virtual machine for which instructions are being executed;
- generate address translation information based on the identifier stored in the virtual machine register;
- translate, using the memory management unit and the address translation information, a virtual address to a physical address;
- and
- control access to a memory region identified based on the translation using a security configuration.
