Abstract

A system for improving fuel consumption of a marine vessel, comprising at least one processor and a memory including computer program code, with the at least memory and the computer program code being configured with the at least one processor to cause the system to: obtain safety information indicative of an increased likelihood for collision of the vessel with another maritime object; process current navigational data of the vessel in view of the safety information to generate a set of possible deviation maneuvering schemes with respect to the other object which qualify a collision prevention safety criterion; perform fuel consumption analysis for the set of possible deviation maneuvering schemes to assess fuel consumption in different possible deviation maneuvering schemes; and compute a recommended deviation scheme for the vessel based on results of the analysis, to reduce fuel consumption of the vessel in maneuvering with respect to the other object.

Dependent claims

A navigation system for a marine vessel, the system comprising:

at least one processor;
one or more onboard sensors and
at least one memory module including computer program code, wherein the at least one memory and the computer program code are configured, with the at least one processor, to cause the system to at least:
continuously process data obtained from the one or more onboard sensors and informative of current state of the marine vessel and environment surrounding thereof to assess a likelihood of collision of the marine vessel with a moving maritime object;
responsive to obtaining an indication of increasing the likelihood, process navigational data indicative of expected progressions of the marine vessel and the moving maritime object to generate a set of possible generated deviation maneuvering schemes for the marine vessel with respect to the moving maritime object, the schemes matching a collision prevention safety criterion;
perform fuel consumption analysis for the set of possible generated deviation maneuvering schemes to assess fuel consumption in different possible generated deviation maneuvering schemes;
select from the set of possible generated deviation maneuvering schemes, a deviation scheme enabling reduced fuel consumption and minimized excepted deceleration of the marine vessel during a deviation maneuver;
and
cause the system to trigger a deviation maneuver of the marine vessel based on the selected deviation scheme.

A computer-implemented method of route navigation of a marine vessel, the method comprising:

continuously processing, by a computer, data informative of a current state of the marine vessel and an environment surrounding thereof to assess a likelihood of collision of the marine vessel with a moving maritime object, wherein at least part of said data is obtained by one or more on-board sensors;
responsive to obtaining an indication of increasing the likelihood, processing navigational data indicative of expected progressions of the marine vessel and the moving maritime object to generate a set of possible generated deviation maneuvering schemes for the marine vessel with respect to the moving maritime object, the schemes matching a collision prevention safety criterion;
performing, by the computer, fuel consumption analysis for the set of possible generated deviation maneuvering schemes to assess fuel consumption in different possible generated deviation maneuvering schemes;
selecting, by the computer from the set of possible generated deviation maneuvering schemes, a deviation scheme enabling reduced fuel consumption and minimized an expected deceleration of the marine vessel during a deviation maneuver;
and
triggering a deviation maneuver of the marine vessel based on the selected deviation scheme.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising instructions stored thereon, that when executed on a processor, cause the processor enable navigating a route of a marine vessel in accordance with a method comprising:

continuously processing, by a computer, data informative of a current state of the marine vessel and an environment surrounding thereof to assess a likelihood of collision of the marine vessel with a moving maritime object, wherein at least part of said data is obtained by one or more on-board sensors;

selecting from the set of possible generated deviation maneuvering schemes, a deviation scheme enabling reduced fuel consumption and minimized an expected deceleration of the marine vessel during a deviation maneuver;
and
triggering a deviation maneuver of the marine vessel based on the selected deviation scheme.
