Abstract
The invention relates to the diagnosis of stroke resulting from occlusion of one or more large vessels in the brain, and in particular to the diagnosis of stroke resulting from occlusion of one or more large vessels in the brain using one or more biomarkers.
Claims14
A method of treating large vessel occlusion (LVO) stroke comprising:
- (i) identifying an individual presenting with stroke symptoms;
- (ii) determining that the individual is experiencing LVO stroke comprising:
- (a) within 24 hours of step (i), obtaining a blood sample from the individual;
- (b) measuring the amount of stroke biomarkers in the blood sample, or in plasma or serum derived therefrom, consisting of
- (1) measuring the amount of D-dimer;
- and
- (2) measuring the amount of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP);
- and
- (iii) providing LVO therapy to the individual having elevated levels of D-dimer and decreased levels of GFAP compared to levels of D-dimer and GFAP in one or more controls.
