Heat pump systems utilizing control and monitoring systems

A control and monitoring system for a heat pump configured to transfer thermal energy to or from a space in accordance with a respective control input at each of a plurality of time steps, wherein the control and monitoring system is configured to:

• obtain a reference system trajectory comprising a respective reference state of the heat pump system for each of the plurality of time steps,
• wherein each reference state of the heat pump system comprises:
• (i) respective reference status information, and (ii) a respective reference control input, for the time step;
• and
• at each of the plurality of time steps:
• receive, from a plurality of sensors configured to collect status information of the space over the plurality of time steps, the status information at the current time step;
• compute the control input at the current time step based, at least in part, on the status information at the current time step;
• transmit, to the heat pump, the control input at the current time step;
• log, as a state of the heat pump system at the current time step:
• (i) the status information, and (ii) the control input, at the current time step;
• and
• compute a deviation between:
• (i) the state of the heat pump system, and (ii) the reference state of the heat pump system, at the current time step;
• determine whether the deviation at the current time step is greater than a threshold deviation;
• and
• if so, log the deviation at the current time step as an unexpected deviation.

A method performed by a control and monitoring system for a heat pump configured to transfer thermal energy to or from a space in accordance with a respective control input at each of a plurality of time steps, wherein the method comprises:

• obtaining a reference system trajectory comprising a respective reference state of the heat pump system for each of the plurality of time steps,
• wherein each reference state of the heat pump system comprises:
• (i) respective reference status information, and (ii) a respective reference control input, for the time step;
• and
• at each of the plurality of time steps:
• receiving, from a plurality of sensors configured to collect status information of the space over the plurality of time steps, the status information at the current time step;
• computing the control input at the current time step based, at least in part, on the status information at the current time step;
• transmitting, to the heat pump, the control input at the current time step;
• logging, as a state of the heat pump system at the current time step:
• (i) the status information, and (ii) the control input, at the current time step;
• computing a deviation between:
• (i) the state of the heat pump system, and (ii) the reference state of the heat pump system, at the current time step;
• determining whether the deviation at the current time step is greater than a threshold deviation;
• and
• if so, logging the deviation at the current time step as an unexpected deviation.
