A kit for joining two workpieces in a confined space using a threaded fastener. The kit has two plates which sandwich the workpieces. The plates have at least one pair of matched central holes through which a bolt is inserted. The bolt is captured with a hex countersink, negating the need for a tool behind the head to resist torque applied to a nut threaded onto that bolt. The plates also have matched pairs of outboard holes which do not overlap the workpieces. Rods, such as hex bolts, are inserted through a matched outboard hole pair. The rods react against edges of the workpieces to resist clockwise and counterclockwise applied torque. The nut can then be attached to the bolt through the central hole using a conventional tool, such as a ratchet wrench. There is no need for a ratchet wrench or other tool to apply counter-torque to the head of that bolt.
