This disclosure methods of treating unconsolidated sand formations using a sealant composition, including volcanic ash, an epoxy resin, and a crosslinker.
Claims23
A method of treating an unconsolidated sand formation, comprising:
- applying a sealant composition to the unconsolidated sand formation, the sealant composition comprising:
- volcanic ash, wherein the volcanic ash is in particle form and about 80% of the volcanic ash particles have a diameter of less than about 50 μm;
- about 85 wt % to about 90 wt % of epoxy resin;
- and
- a crosslinker;
- wherein the sealant composition does not comprise cement.

A method of treating an unconsolidated sand formation, comprising:
- applying a sealant composition to the unconsolidated sand formation, the sealant composition comprising:
- about 5 wt % to about 15 wt % of the volcanic ash, wherein about 80% of the volcanic ash particles have a diameter of less than about 50 μm;
- about 85 wt % to about 90 wt % bisphenol-A-epichlorohydrin epoxy resin comprising an oxirane mono [(C12-14)-alkyloxy)methyl] derivative;
- and
- about 2 wt % to about 4 wt % diethylenetriamine (DETA);
- wherein the sealant composition does not comprise cement.
