Abstract
A banding tool with the ability to preset a torque to control the tension force applied to the band and prevent over tensioning the band beyond a yield point when tightening the band around one or more objects. The banding tool further comprises a clamping assembly, a repositionable band guide or nose, and a bearing assembly. The position of the band guide or nose is radially offset from a rotation axis of the bearing assembly. Rotation of the bearing assembly causes repositioning of the band guide or nose relative to the clamping assembly and tool. As a result, the band may be rolled over onto itself without enduring an increased tension.
Claims21
A banding tool, comprising:
- a frame having a first end and a second end spaced from the first end, the first and second end defining a longitudinal axis of the frame;
- a rotatable band guide located proximate the second end of the frame, the rotatable band guide including a channel to receive a length of a band;
- and
- a clamp assembly located between the first end of the frame and the band guide, the clamp assembly movable between a first position and a second position, the clamp assembly configured to hold and apply a tension to the band.
A banding tool, comprising:
- a frame having a first end and a second end spaced from the first end, the first and second end defining a longitudinal axis of the frame;
- a bearing assembly attached to the frame proximate the second end of the frame, the bearing assembly including at least one bearing defining an axis of rotation and a bearing body rotatable within the at least one bearing;
- a band guide including a band channel having a first end and a second end, the band channel configured to hold a portion of a band, the band guide interconnected to the bearing body and rotatable with the bearing body;
- and
- a clamp assembly located between the first end of the frame and the band guide, the clamp assembly movable between a first position and a second position, the clamp assembly configured to hold and apply a tension to the band.
A method of tensioning a band about one or more objects, comprising;
- providing a banding tool having a frame with a forward end and a rearward end, a band guide positioned proximate the forward end of the frame, the band guide having a channel to receive a length of the band, and a movable band clamping assembly for securing and applying a tension to the band, the band clamping assembly located between the band guide and the rearward end of the frame;
- positioning a first portion of the band within the channel of the band guide;
- engaging a second portion of the band with the band clamping assembly;
- moving the band clamp assembly to increase a tension on the band;
- and
- rotating the band guide without rotating the frame to from a bend in the band.
