Abstract
A calcination apparatus is disclosed. The calcination apparatus comprises a calciner, a heated steam production apparatus to produce steam and provide heat and steam to the calciner and a separator to receive exhaust gas from the calciner and to condense steam from the exhaust gas and separate CO2 gas from the water produced from the condensed steam.

A calcination apparatus comprising:
- a calciner;
- a heated steam production apparatus to produce steam and provide heat and steam to the calciner;
- and
- a separator to receive exhaust gas from the calciner and to condense steam from the exhaust gas and separate CO2 gas from the water produced from the condensed steam.

A process for calcining a raw material to produce a calcined product, the process comprising:
- introducing the raw material to a calciner;
- and
- heating the raw material in the presence of steam in the calciner to produce a calcined product;
- condensing steam from exhaust gas from the calciner;
- and
- where used with a carbonate ore, separating CO2 gas from the water produced from the condensed steam.
