Abstract
Shoulder strengthening systems can provide multidirectional and dynamic resistance to shoulder movement of a user. A shoulder strengthening system can include a frame, a joint pivotably coupled to the frame, a resistance mechanism coupled to the joint, a shaft coupled to the joint, and a wrist-ring structure coupled to the shaft. The wrist-ring structure can include a ring, a shuttle movably coupled to the ring, and a brace coupled to the shuttle. The shuttle can include a jaw structure that extends around edges of the ring. In some examples, the jaw structure is movable between first and second positions to transition to the shuttle between a freely movable state and a fixed state.
Claims20
An exercise apparatus comprising:
- a frame;
- a joint pivotably coupled to the frame;
- a resistance mechanism coupled to the joint;
- a shaft coupled to the joint, wherein the joint is configured to enable movement of the shaft around one or more axes of the joint;
- and
- a wrist-ring structure configured to be coupled to the shaft, wherein the wrist-ring structure is configured to move with the shaft around the one or more axes of the joint, wherein the wrist-ring structure comprises:
- a ring comprising a first edge, a second edge, and an interior surface extending between the first and second edges;
- a shuttle coupled to the ring, the shuttle comprising a jaw structure including a first jaw member that extends over the first edge of the ring and a second jaw member that extends over the second edge of the ring, wherein the jaw structure moveably couples the shuttle to the ring, and wherein the shuttle is configured to move along a circumference of the ring and about a first axis of the wrist-ring structure;
- and
- a brace coupled to the shuttle, wherein the brace is configured to move with the shuttle along the circumference of the ring and about the first axis of the wrist-ring structure.
An exercise apparatus comprising:
- a frame;
- a joint pivotably coupled to the frame;
- a resistance mechanism coupled to the joint;
- a shaft coupled to the joint;
- and
- a wrist-ring structure coupled to the shaft, wherein the shaft, the wrist-ring structure, and the joint are configured to move together relative to the frame, wherein the wrist-ring structure comprises:
- a ring;
- and
- a shuttle coupled to the ring, the shuttle comprising a jaw structure including a first jaw member and a second jaw member, wherein the jaw structure moveably couples the shuttle to the ring, and wherein the first and second jaw members are transitionable between a first position and a second position, wherein, in the first position of the first and second jaw members, the shuttle is in a fixed state relative to the ring, and wherein, in the second position of the first and second jaw members, the shuttle is in a freely moveable state relative to the ring;
- and
- a lever that extends from the shuttle and is configured for transitioning the first and second jaw members between the first position and the second position.
An exercise apparatus comprising:
- a frame;
- a joint pivotably coupled to the frame;
- a resistance mechanism coupled to the joint;
- a shaft coupled to the joint, wherein the joint is configured to enable movement of the shaft around one or more axes of the joint;
- and
- a wrist-ring structure configured to be coupled to the shaft, wherein the wrist-ring structure is configured to move with the shaft around the one or more axes of the joint, wherein the wrist-ring structure comprises:
- a ring comprising a first edge, a second edge, and an interior surface extending between the first and second edges;
- a shuttle coupled to the ring, wherein the shuttle is configured to move along a circumference of the ring and about a first axis of the wrist-ring structure;
- a brace coupled to the shuttle, wherein the brace is configured to move with the shuttle along the circumference of the ring and about the first axis of the wrist-ring structure, wherein the brace is configured to receive a wrist and palm of a user such that the user’s fingers are distal of the ring when the user’s wrist and palm are received in the brace;
- and
- a lever extending from a distal face of the shuttle and moveable between a first position and a second position, wherein, in the first position of the lever, the shuttle is in a fixed state relative to the ring, and wherein, in the second position of the lever, the shuttle is in a freely moveable state relative to the ring.
