Suture Fastener and Delivery Device

A method for securing a suture within a surgical field via a suture fastener delivery device, wherein the suture fastener delivery device comprises a controller a fastener delivery end a shaft extending between the controller and the fastener delivery end, a side suture slot positioned about a side of the shaft, crimping jaws, and a suture cutting blade positioned within the shaft, the method comprising

• advancing a suture fastener to the fastener delivery end;
• positioning the suture fastener delivery device within the surgical field such that a side opening of the suture fastener is adjacent to a suture;
• capturing the suture within the suture fastener such that the suture is positioned within a body of the suture fastener, and a trailing end of the suture exits through the side suture slot;
• deforming the suture fastener via the crimping jaws in response to activation of the controller;
• cutting the trailing end of the suture via the suture cutting blade in response to activation of the controller;
• and
• bending the suture fastener in a predetermined direction via the crimping jaws in response to activation of the controller.

A suture fastener for delivery within a surgical field by a delivery device and configured to receive a suture, the suture fastener comprising:

• a first end and a second end opposite the first end;
• a C-shaped collar at the first end;
• a C-shaped body extending between the collar and the second end;
• and
• a slot extending from the first end to the second end.
