Abstract
A material collection system may include a hose including an internal wire and a hose drive assembly configured for driving extension and retraction of the hose. The hose drive assembly may include a powered roller including a plurality of gripping elements, at least one of the plurality of gripping elements being an elongated gripping element configured for indent engagement with the wire during extension or retraction of the hose.
Claims34
A vehicle comprising:
- a suction hose including an outer layer and an inner layer, the inner layer of the suction hose including a wire embedded therein, the wire comprising a helical wire having a helical axis running along a length of the suction hose, the helical wire having a pitch characterized by a pitch distance;
- and
- a hose drive assembly configured for driving extension and retraction of the suction hose, the hose drive assembly comprising:
- at least one powered roller including a plurality of elongated gripping elements, at least some of the plurality of gripping elements being regularly spaced at a spacing distance about an outer surface of the at least one powered roller, said spacing distance corresponding to the pitch distance of the helical wire.

- a hose drive assembly configured for driving extension and retraction of the suction hose, the hose drive assembly comprising:
- a powered roller including a plurality of gripping elements, at least one of the plurality of gripping elements being an elongated gripping element configured for indent engagement with the wire during extension or retraction of the suction hose.

A vehicle including an extendable and retractable hose, the vehicle comprising:
- a hose;
- and
- a hose drive assembly configured for driving extension and retraction of the hose, the hose drive assembly comprising:
- a plurality of roller subassemblies, at least one of the plurality of roller subassemblies comprising a powered roller, said powered roller including one or more gripping elements, the powered roller being adjustably mounted so that it is movable to a first position during extension of the hose and movable to a second position during retraction of the hose;
- wherein said powered roller is configured to engage the hose so as to rotate the hose in a direction with the powered roller in said first position and to rotate the hose in the same direction with the powered roller in said second position.
