Computer-implemented method for modifying a control mode based on user inputs

A system comprising:

• a variable transmission optical element;
• a sensor adapted to measure an external illumination;
• an interface adapted to acquire user inputs;
• and
• a control unit programmed to implement a control mode designed to control a transmission value of the variable transmission optical element as a function of the external illumination,
• the control unit being configured to:
• measure an initial level of the external illumination,
• set the transmission value of the variable transmission optical element to an initial value according to the control mode as a function of the initial level of the external illumination,
• acquire a user input for adjusting a parameter related to the transmission value of the variable transmission optical element,
• set, based on the user input and according to a manual mode, the transmission value of the variable transmission optical element to a requested value,
• compute, based on the requested value and on the initial level of the external illumination, a confidence value representative of a likelihood that the requested value is a user preference relative to the initial level of the external illumination, and
• modify or maintain unchanged the control mode based on the user input and on the confidence value.
