Abstract
A method performed by a STA may comprise transmitting an HE LTF of a data unit. The HE LTF may have a number of symbols based on a number of space-time streams utilized for the data unit. The HE LTF may be transmitted on a subset of subcarriers of a 20 MHz channel, a 40 MHz channel or an 80 MHz channel.

A station (STA) comprising:
- a processor configured to determine a number of symbols utilized for a long training field (LTF) communication based on a number of space-time streams associated with a wireless local area network (WLAN) communication, wherein:
- the number of space-times streams is at least two;
- on a condition that the number of space-time streams is equal to 2, 4, 6, or 8, the processor determines the number of symbols is equal to the number of space-time streams;
- on a condition that the number of space-time steams is not equal to 2, 4, 6, or 8, the processor determines the number of symbols is a next higher number than the number of space-time steams;
- and
- a transmitter configured to transmit, based on the determined number of symbols, the LTF communication using a set of subcarriers that corresponds to subcarrier indices that include at least one subset of consecutive indices.

- and
- a transmitter configured to transmit, based on the determined number of symbols, the LTF communication using a set of subcarriers that corresponds to subcarrier indices that include at least one first subset of consecutive indices, wherein the set of subcarrier comprises a second subset of consecutive indices, and wherein the first subset of consecutive indices is not consecutive with the second subset of consecutive indices.
