Abstract
One or more embodiments of a burner panel for a metallurgical furnace is described herein. The burner panel has a body having a top surface, a bottom surface, a left surface, a right surface, and a front surface surrounding an interior burner area. A spray-cool system disposed in the interior area. A burner tube at least partially disposed in the interior burner area and extends into the front surface. The burner tube is configured to accept a burner.
Claims20
A burner panel for use in a metallurgical furnace, the burner panel comprising:
- an outer enclosure having an exterior surface and an interior surface, the exterior surface configured to be exposed to an interior volume of the metallurgical furnace;
- a burner enclosure disposed within the outer enclosure and configured to accept a burner;
- a cooling cavity defined by the interior surface of the outer enclosure and an outer surface of the burner enclosure;
- and
- a coolant delivery system disposed in the cooling cavity between the outer enclosure and the burner enclosure, the coolant delivery system configured to discharge coolant into the interior volume of the outer enclosure of the burner panel.
A metallurgical furnace comprising:
- a sidewall having a roof disposed thereon, the sidewall comprising:
- an interior face having a first surface partially bounding an interior volume of the metallurgical furnace;
- a sidewall burner pocket open through the interior face;
- and
- a second surface facing away from the interior volume of the metallurgical furnace;
- and
- a burner panel disposed in the sidewall burner pocket, the burner panel comprising:
- an outer enclosure having an exterior surface and an interior surface, the exterior surface configured to be exposed to an interior volume of the metallurgical furnace;
- a burner enclosure disposed within the outer enclosure and configured to accept a burner;
- a cooling cavity defined by the interior surface of the outer enclosure and an outer surface of the burner enclosure;
- a coolant delivery system disposed in the cooling cavity between the outer enclosure and the burner enclosure, the coolant delivery system configured to discharge coolant into the interior volume of the outer enclosure of the burner panel;
- and
- a drain positioned to remove spend coolant applied to the interior surface of the outer enclosure of the burner panel.
A method for cooling a burner panel of a metallurgical furnace, the method comprising:
- flowing coolant through a cooling delivery conduit disposed in a cooling cavity of an outer enclosure of the burner panel, the outer enclosure having an exterior surface and an interior surface, the exterior surface configured to be exposed to an interior volume of the metallurgical furnace, the burner panel having a burner enclosure disposed within the outer enclosure and configured to accept a burner, the cooling cavity defined by the interior surface of the outer enclosure and an outer surface of the burner enclosure;
- and
- discharging coolant from the coolant delivery conduit onto at least one of the interior surface of the outer enclosure and the outer surface of the burner enclosure.
