Abstract
A patient monitoring sensor having a communication interface, through which the patient monitoring sensor can communicate with a monitor is provided. The patient monitoring sensor includes a light-emitting diode (LED) communicatively coupled to the communication interface and a detector, communicatively coupled to the communication interface, capable of detecting light. The patient monitoring sensor includes a layer of material is provided over the LED on the patient-side of the sensor to reduce transmission of heat therefrom to the skin of the patient.
Claims21
-20. (Canceled)
A patient monitoring sensor comprising:
- a body comprising a flex circuit;
- a light emitter disposed on the body, wherein the light emitter is surface mounted on the flex circuit;
- a detector disposed on the body, wherein the detector is receptive to light emitted by the light emitter;
- a thermal insulator positioned over the light emitter on a patient side of the sensor, wherein the thermal insulator is at least partially transparent;
- and
- a bandage layer disposed over at least a portion the body.
A patient monitoring sensor comprising:
- an upper bandage layer;
- a bottom tape layer comprising a patient-side adhesive;
- a body inserted between the upper bandage layer and the bottom tape layer, wherein the body comprises a flex circuit;
- a light emitter disposed on the body;
- a detector disposed on the body;
- a light blocking layer between the upper bandage layer and the bottom tape layer;
- and
- a thermal insulator disposed between the light emitter and the light blocking layer.
A patient monitoring system, comprising:
- a patient monitoring sensor comprising:
- a body comprising a flex circuit;
- a light emitter disposed on the body, wherein the light emitter is surface mounted on the flex circuit;
- a detector disposed on the body, wherein the detector is receptive to light emitted by the light emitter;
- a thermal insulator positioned over the light emitter on a patient side of the sensor, wherein the thermal insulator is at least partially transparent;
- an upper bandage layer;
- a bottom tape layer comprising a patient-side adhesive, wherein the body is inserted between the upper bandage layer and the bottom tape layer;
- one or more light blocking layers between the upper bandage layer and the bottom tape layer;
- a communication interface communicatively coupled to the flex circuit;
- and
- wherein the communication interface comprises a cable and a plug.
