Abstract
Expandable collet bodies with sectional finger-based anti-rotation features are disclosed. The collet body comprises not only a plurality of gripping finger as a first part of a two-part anti-rotation means (ARM), but also a first part of a two part translation arresting means (TAM), which may or may not be sectional in nature and the TAM prevents over translation of a collet body within the work piece(s), and cooperates with a second part of the TAM associated with a work piece or an auxiliary structure. In this manner, a collet body inserted into a work piece or auxiliary structure will not accidentally be pushed beyond the blind side of the work piece(s) during insertion or initial clamp-up.
Claims10
A workpiece fastening system comprising:
- a collet body including:
- a cylindrical wall positioned at a proximal end of the collet body, wherein the cylindrical wall has a threaded inner surface;
- and
- multiple gripping fingers extended distally from the cylindrical wall and separated by multiple slots, wherein the multiple gripping fingers are flexible in a radial direction;
- a screw, a bolt, or a stud including a threaded portion that threadingly engages the threaded inner surface of the cylindrical wall of the collet body;
- and
- a sleeve insert or a clip that is configured to anti-rotationally engage the collet body;
- wherein the multiple gripping fingers are formed by removing a chord section or an arc section from the collet body;
- and
- wherein the sleeve insert or the clip includes a protuberance or a bulge that is disposed within a bore and is configured to mate with the multiple slots between the multiple gripping fingers of the collet body.
A single-side workpiece fastening system comprising:
- a collet body including:
- a cylindrical wall positioned at a proximal end and defining a longitudinal axis, wherein the arc section has a threaded inner surface;
- and
- multiple gripping fingers extended distally from the cylindrical wall and separated by multiple slots, wherein the multiple gripping fingers are flexible in a radial direction;
- a screw, bolt, or stud including a threaded portion that threadingly engages the threaded inner surface of the arc section of the collet body;
- and
- a sleeve insert or a clip that is configured to rotationally engage the collet body;
- wherein the multiple gripping fingers are formed by removing a chord section or an arc section from the collet body;
- and
- wherein the sleeve insert or the clip includes a protuberance or a bulge that is disposed within a bore and is configured to mate with the multiple slots between the multiple gripping fingers of the collet body.
