Abstract
Apparatus, systems, and articles of manufacture are disclosed to dynamically support axial thrust in pumps. An example thrust bearing on a shaft disclosed herein includes a first thrust pad, a second thrust pad, and a thrust disc to be rigidly coupled to the shaft at a first end, the thrust disc positioned between the first and second thrust pads, the thrust disc including a tapered edge at a second end opposite the first end.
Claims20
A thrust bearing to support axial thrust on a shaft, the thrust bearing comprising:
- a first thrust pad;
- a second thrust pad;
- and
- a thrust disc to be rigidly coupled to the shaft at a first end, the thrust disc positioned between the first and second thrust pads, the thrust disc including a tapered edge at a second end opposite the first end.
An apparatus comprising:
- a shaft;
- a thrust bearing housing;
- and
- a thrust bearing within the thrust bearing housing, the thrust bearing including:
- a first thrust pad;
- a second thrust pad;
- and
- a thrust disc coupled to the shaft at a first end, the thrust disc between the first thrust pad and the second thrust pad, the thrust disc including a tapered edge at a second edge opposite the first end.
A thermal transport system including:
- a thermal transport bus;
- a heat sink exchanger fluidly coupled to the thermal transport bus;
- a heat source exchanger fluidly coupled to the thermal transport bus;
- and
- a pump coupled to the thermal transport bus, the pump including:
- a housing;
- a shaft;
- a forward thrust pad coupled to the housing;
- an aft thrust pad coupled to the housing;
- and
- a thrust disc coupled to the shaft at a first end, the thrust disc between the forward thrust pad and the aft thrust pad, the thrust disc including a tapered edge at a second end opposite the first end.
