Evaporator

An evaporator for a heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC&R) system, comprising:

• a housing comprising a refrigerant inlet configured to direct refrigerant into the housing and a refrigerant outlet configured to output gaseous refrigerant from the housing;
• a falling film heat exchange tube set disposed within the housing, wherein the falling film heat exchange tube set comprises a first heat exchange tube set and a second heat exchange tube set, the first heat exchange tube set comprises a first plurality of heat exchange tubes arranged in a first plurality of columns, the second heat exchange tube set comprises a second plurality of heat exchange tubes arranged in a second plurality of columns, and a first number of the first plurality of columns is greater than a second number of the second plurality of columns;
• and
• a redistribution device disposed between the first heat exchange tube set and the second heat exchange tube set, wherein the redistribution device is configured to receive liquid refrigerant from the first heat exchange tube set and distribute liquid refrigerant across the second heat exchange tube set.

An evaporator for a heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC&R) system, comprising:

• a housing comprising a refrigerant inlet configured to direct refrigerant into the housing and a refrigerant outlet configured to discharge gaseous refrigerant from the housing;
• a falling film heat exchange tube set disposed within the housing, wherein the falling film heat exchange tube set comprises a first heat exchange tube set and a second heat exchange tube set, the first heat exchange tube set is disposed between the refrigerant inlet and the second heat exchange tube set, relative to a height direction of the housing, the first heat exchange tube set comprises a first width, and the second heat exchange tube set comprises a second width, less than the first width;
• a first baffle device disposed within the housing and arranged along a first outer contour of a first side of the falling film heat exchange tube set;
• and
• a second baffle device disposed within the housing and arranged along a second outer contour of a second side, opposite the first side, of the falling film heat exchange tube set.

A heat exchanger for a heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC&R) system, comprising:

• a housing comprising a refrigerant inlet configured to direct refrigerant into the housing and a refrigerant outlet configured to discharge gaseous refrigerant from the housing;
• a falling film heat exchange tube set disposed within the housing, wherein the falling film heat exchange tube set comprises a first heat exchange tube set and a second heat exchange tube set disposed below the first heat exchange tube set, relative to a height direction of the housing;
• a first side baffle device disposed within the housing and extending along a first outer contour of a first side of the falling film heat exchange tube set;
• a second side baffle device disposed within the housing and extending along a second outer contour of a second side, opposite the first side, of the falling film heat exchange tube set;
• and
• a redistribution device disposed between the first heat exchange tube set and the second heat exchange tube set, relative to the height direction of the housing, wherein the redistribution device is coupled to the first side baffle device and the second side baffle device, the redistribution device is configured to receive liquid refrigerant from the first heat exchange tube set and to distribute liquid refrigerant across the second heat exchange tube set.
