Battery electric vehicle

A battery electric vehicle that uses an electric motor as a motive power device for traveling, the battery electric vehicle comprising:

• a processor that is configured to control the battery electric vehicle;
• and
• a shifter,
• wherein the processor is configured to:
• switch, according to operation by a driver of the battery electric vehicle, between an automatic control mode of performing traveling as an ordinary battery electric vehicle and a manual operation mode of performing traveling so as to simulate an engine vehicle equipped with a manual transmission by accepting virtual gear shifting operation through the shifter;
• when the processor determines that a state of the battery electric vehicle is a non-switchable state in which switching from the automatic control mode to the manual operation mode is inappropriate, reject a request of the driver for switching from the automatic control mode to the manual operation mode;
• and
• when the processor has rejected the switching request, perform rejection notification of notifying the driver that the switching request has been rejected.
