Abstract
Example approaches are disclosed for manufacturing fiber reinforced parts. A mixture of a fibrous material and a matrix material is consolidated into skin layers each of which represents an individual skin layer. Portions of a core structure material are injected into a mold in which at least one of the skin layers is placed. The portions of the core structure material are fused with the at least one of the skin layers to create a part with a hybrid structure.
Claims20
A method for manufacturing fiber-reinforced composite parts, comprising:
- consolidating a mixture of a fibrous material and a matrix material into skin layers each of which represents an individual skin layer made of portions of the fibrous material distributed in a matrix formed by portions of the matrix material;
- injecting portions of a core structure material into a mold in which at least one of the skin layers is placed;
- and
- fusing the portions of the core structure material with the at least one of the skin layers to create a part with a hybrid structure.
A fiber-reinforced recyclable composite part assembly, comprising:
- natural fibers;
- a matrix material;
- a core structure material;
- a container that contains, heats, presses and consolidates a mixture of the natural fibers and the matrix material into skin layers;
- a molding tool that has a cavity into which at least one skin layer of the skin layers is placed and into which portions of the core structure material are injected;
- wherein the molding tool applies heat and pressure to the at least one skin layer and the portions of the core structure material and fuses the portions of the core structure material with the at least one of the skin layers to create a part with a hybrid structure.
