Abstract
Methods of treating one or more eating disorders including anorexia nervosa, bulimia, and related clinical syndromes in a subject in need thereof are described. In some cases, electric stimulation and/or one or more active agents are administered to a subject in need thereof to reduce or inhibit the activity of CeA PKC-δ neurons and ovBNST PKC-δ neurons in the brain of the subject. Preferably, the disclosed methods are effective to increase or excite the activity of the brain regions downstream of CeA PKC-δ neurons and ovBNST PKC-δ neurons including medial part of CeA and ventral lateral part of BNST.
Claims24
A method of treating or preventing one or more eating disorders, comprising administering to a subject in need thereof an effective amount of electric stimulation (a) to reduce or inhibit the activity of CeA PKC-δ neurons and ovBNST PKC-δ neurons in the brain of the subject or (b) to increase or excite the activity of the brain regions downstream of CeA PKC-δ neurons and ovBNST PKC-δ neurons of the subject.
A method of treating or preventing one or more eating disorders, comprising administering to a subject in need thereof an effective amount of electric stimulation (a) to increase or excite the activity of one or more brain regions upstream of CeA PKC-δ neurons and ovBNST PKC-δ neurons of the subject or (b) to reduce or inhibit the activity of one or more brain regions upstream of CeA PKC-δ neurons and ovBNST PKC-δ neurons of the subject.

A method of treating or preventing one or more eating disorders, comprising administering to a subject in need thereof an effective amount of a first pharmacological drug (a) to reduce or inhibit the activity of CeA PKC-δ neurons and ovBNST PKC-δ neurons in the brain of the subject, (b) to increase or excite the activity of one or more brain regions downstream of CeA PKC-δ neurons and ovBNST PKC-δ neurons of the subject, (c) to increase or excite the activity of one or more brain regions upstream of CeA PKC-δ neurons and ovBNST PKC-δ neurons of the subject, or (d) to reduce or inhibit the activity of one or more brain regions upstream of CeA PKC-δ neurons and ovBNST PKC-δ neurons of the subject.
