Abstract
A shaping tool is used to form a bend in the distal end of a guidewire. The guidewire distal end is inserted through a channel and into a cavity of the shaping tool. Using hand pressure, a fist member is moved axially relative to a second member of the shaping tool, thereby moving the cavity relative to the channel and imparting a bend in the distal end of the guidewire.
Claims21
A device for pre-forming a bend in a distal end of a guidewire, comprising:
- a shaping tool having a first member and a second member slidably disposed in the first member;
- and
- at least one cavity positioned in the second member and configured for receiving the distal end of the guidewire for imparting a bend in the distal end as the second member slides relative to the first member.
A method of forming a bend in a distal end of a guidewire, comprising:
- providing a shaping tool having a first member and a second member slidably disposed in the first member;
- inserting the distal end of the guidewire into a cavity positioned in the second member;
- and
- imparting force to axially move the second member relative to the first member thereby shifting the cavity and forming a bend in the distal end of the guidewire.
