Abstract
An implantable device includes a portion that is constructed such that at least a majority of the portion, as measured by volume, comprises Ti64(Ti-6Al-4V) alloy. Additionally, the portion is bendable to a bend angle of at least about 50-degrees about a bend axis while maintaining structural integrity.
Claims20
An intraoperatively-bendable acetabular cage, comprising:
- a dome for insertion within an acetabulum;
- and
- a flange for affixation to a portion of an ilium, the flange and the dome being monolithic with each other,
- wherein the dome and the flange are constructed of fused particles of a Ti64 alloy exhibiting an alpha+beta phase lamellar grain structure having lamella of a greater width than lamella of fused particles of the Ti64 alloy following particle fusion.
A method of preparing an intraoperatively-bendable acetabular cage for implantation, the method comprising:
- with an intraoperatively-bendable acetabular cage that comprises:
- a dome for insertion within an acetabulum;
- and a flange for affixation to a portion of an ilium, the flange and the dome being monolithic with each other, wherein the dome and the flange are constructed of fused particles of a Ti64 alloy exhibiting an alpha+beta phase lamellar grain structure having lamella of a greater width than lamella of fused particles of the Ti64 alloy following particle fusion,
- bending a portion of the intraoperatively-bendable acetabular cage to a bend angle of at least about 50-degrees about a bend axis, the portion maintaining structural integrity during and after the bending.
