Abstract
The present disclosure relates to novel radiation-triggered controlled release drug compositions, and methods to make and use the radiation-triggered controlled release drug compositions. The radiation-triggered controlled drug release nanoparticle formulations may be used to achieve maximum bioavailability and minimum adverse effects of the chemo drugs in chemo radio combination therapy treatment of locally advanced solid tumors.
Claims6
A method comprising:
- a) providing a composition directly into tumor tissue, the composition comprising one or more CaWO4 (CWO) nanoparticles co-encapsulated with one or more chemotherapeutic drugs in the same capsule, the capsule comprising PEG-PLA block-copolymers (BCPs);
- and
- b) providing a dose of X-ray radiation to the tumor comprising the composition, the X-ray radiation causing:
- (i) degradation of the capsule when the one or more CWO nanoparticles emit at least UV-A light;
- and
- (ii) release of the chemotherapeutic drugs from the inside of the capsule to the tumor tissue.
