Abstract
A method for reducing the amount of sebum produced by human skin and/or by the scalp, for preventing, reducing, slowing down, stopping, and/or attenuating the appearance of unsightly, uncomfortable, and/or unpleasant manifestations of the skin and/or scalp in humans due to the secretion of sebum includes topically applying an extract of the alga Halopteris scoparia. Cosmetic or pharmaceutical compositions, in particular dermatological compositions, for topical use, containing an extract of the alga Halopteris scoparia, are also described.
Claims16
A method for preventing, reducing, slowing down, stopping, and/or attenuating a presence of closed comedones, open comedones, papules, pustules, nodules, scars, visibly dilated pores, a glistening or greasy or shiny appearance, and/or a tacky sensation of skin and/or a scalp of humans due to secretion of sebum from essentially healthy skin, the method comprising:
- topically applying an extract of Halopteris scoparia as a cosmetic active principle to the skin and/or the scalp of a subject in need thereof.
A method of obtaining an extract of Halopteris scoparia in a form suitable for topical application for its therapeutic use for preventing and/or treating skin pathologies associated with hyperproduction of sebum, the method comprising:
- a) drying and grinding Halopteris scoparia to obtain a biomass;
- b) bringing the biomass obtained in step a) into contact with an organic solvent so as to obtain a mixture, the mixture comprising, per 100% of its mass, from 5% by mass to 15% by mass of the biomass and from 85% by mass to 95% by mass of the organic solvent;
- c) stirring the mixture obtained in step b) for a period of between 1 hour and 6 hours at a temperature of between 15° C. and 35° C.;
- and
- d) separating the biomass from the mixture obtained at the end of step c) to isolate a liquid phase which corresponds to the extract of Halopteris scoparia.
