Abstract
Providing multiple versions of a 3D media item includes obtaining a 3D media item associated with a first interpupillary distance, synthesizing a plurality of additional versions of the 3D media item each associated with an additional interpupillary distance, and providing the 3D media item and the plurality of additional versions of the 3D media item to one or more playback devices. For each additional interpupillary distance, the 3D media item is reprojected based on a particular additional interpupillary distance and a predetermined depth.
Claims20
A non-transitory computer readable medium comprising computer readable code executable by one or more processors to:
- detect, on a head mounted device (HMD), a playback request for a 3D media item;
- generate a request for the 3D media item, wherein the request identifies the 3D media item and a preferred interpupillary distance;
- transmit the request to a media service hosting the 3D media item, wherein the media service hosts a first version of the 3D media item having a first interaxial distance;
- and
- in response to transmitting the request, receive, from the media service, a second version of the 3D media item based on the preferred interpupillary distance.
A method comprising:
- detecting, on a head mounted device (HMD), a playback request for a 3D media item;
- generating a request for the 3D media item, wherein the request identifies the 3D media item and a preferred interpupillary distance;
- transmitting the request to a media service hosting the 3D media item, wherein the media service hosts a first version of the 3D media item having a first interaxial distance;
- and
- in response to transmitting the request, receiving, from the media service, a second version of the 3D media item based on the preferred interpupillary distance.
A system comprising:
- one or more processors;
- and
- one or more computer readable media comprising computer readable code executable by one or more processors to:
- detect, on a head mounted device (HMD), a playback request for a 3D media item;
- generate a request for the 3D media item, wherein the request identifies the 3D media item and a preferred interpupillary distance;
- transmit the request to a media service hosting the 3D media item, wherein the media service hosts a first version of the 3D media item having a first interaxial distance;
- and
- in response to transmitting the request, receive, from the media service, a second version of the 3D media item based on the preferred interpupillary distance.
