Display mask layer generation and runtime adjustment

An apparatus for display processing, comprising:

• memory;
• and
• at least one processor coupled to the memory and configured to:
• configure, based on a target display configuration, at least one mask layer including a set of mask units associated with a set of physical sub-pixel values;
• store, to a device storage of a device, the at least one mask layer;
• retrieve, from the device storage during a run-time period, the at least one mask layer;
• and
• apply or refrain from applying, to a display panel during the run-time period, the at least one mask layer based on the target display configuration and a current display configuration.

An apparatus for display processing, comprising:

• memory;
• and
• at least one processor coupled to the memory and configured to:
• retrieve, from a device storage of a device during a run-time period, at least one mask layer based on a target display configuration, wherein the at least one mask layer includes a set of mask units associated with a set of physical sub-pixel values;
• compare the target display configuration to a current display configuration of a display panel;
• adjust, during the run-time period, the at least one mask layer based on the comparison of the target display configuration to the current display configuration;
• and
• apply, to the display panel during the run-time period, the adjusted at least one mask layer.
