Abstract

A system can maintain a log filesystem in which data is stored as respective data chunks, wherein the respective data chunks correspond to respective chunk descriptors, and wherein respective inode leaf blocks, which correspond to respective files that are stored in the respective data chunks, comprise respective first virtual pointers to respective virtual chunk extents that comprise respective second virtual pointer groups to the respective data chunks. The system can, for a data chunk of the respective data chunks, store, in a corresponding chunk descriptor, a maximum temperature value and a minimum temperature value of the data chunk. The system can adjust a data tiering level of at least part of the data of the data chunk based on at least one of the maximum temperature value or the minimum temperature value.

Dependent claims

A system, comprising:

at least one processor;
and
at least one memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, facilitate performance of operations, comprising:
maintaining a log filesystem in which data is stored as respective data chunks, wherein the respective data chunks correspond to respective chunk descriptors that comprise respective metadata of the respective data chunks, and wherein respective inode leaf blocks, which correspond to respective files that are stored in the respective data chunks, comprise respective first virtual pointers to respective virtual chunk extents that comprise respective second virtual pointer groups to the respective data chunks;
for a data chunk of the respective data chunks, storing, in a corresponding chunk descriptor of the chunk descriptors, a maximum temperature value of the data chunk and a minimum temperature value of the data chunk, wherein the maximum temperature value indicates a maximum value of respective temperature values of respective second virtual pointer groups of the second virtual pointer groups that point to the data chunk, wherein the respective second virtual pointer groups point to respective data blobs of the chunk, wherein the respective data blobs correspond to respective separately maintained temperature values of the respective temperature values, and wherein the minimum temperature value indicates a minimum value of the respective temperature values;
making a data tiering decision for the data chunk to adjust a data tiering level in which the data chunk is stored based on at least one of the maximum temperature value or the minimum temperature value, wherein the making is performed independently of others of the respective temperature values that are different from the maximum temperature value or the minimum temperature value;
and
adjusting the data tiering level of at least part of the data of the data chunk based on the data tiering decision.

A method, comprising:

storing, by a system comprising at least one processor, data of a log filesystem in a chunk, wherein the chunk corresponds to a chunk descriptor, and wherein an inode leaf block, which corresponds to a file that is stored in the respective chunk, comprises a first virtual pointer to a virtual chunk extent that comprises groups of second virtual pointers to the chunk;
storing, by the system, an upper limit temperature value and a lower limit temperature value in the chunk descriptor, wherein the upper limit temperature value indicates an upper limit value of respective temperature values of respective groups of second virtual pointers of the groups of second virtual pointers, and wherein the lower limit temperature value indicates a lower limit value of the respective temperature values;
making, by the system, a data tiering decision for the chunk to adjust a data tiering level in which the chunk is stored based on at least one of the upper limit temperature value or the lower limit temperature value, wherein the making is performed independently of others of the respective temperature values that are different from the upper limit temperature value or the lower limit temperature value;
and
adjusting, by the system, the data tiering level of at least part of the data of the chunk based on the data tiering decision.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising instructions that, in response to execution, cause a system comprising at least one processor to perform operations, comprising:

storing a maximum temperature value and a minimum temperature value in a chunk descriptor, wherein the chunk descriptor corresponds to a chunk that stores data, wherein an inode leaf block that corresponds to a file that is stored in the respective chunk comprises a first virtual pointer to a virtual chunk extent that comprises groups of second virtual pointers to the chunk, wherein the maximum temperature value indicates a maximum value of respective temperature values of respective groups of second virtual pointers of the groups of second virtual pointers, and wherein the minimum temperature value indicates a minimum value of the respective temperature values;
making a data tiering decision for the chunk to adjust a data tier in which the chunk is stored based on at least one of the maximum temperature value or the minimum temperature value, wherein the making is performed independently of others of the respective temperature values that are different from the maximum temperature value or the minimum temperature value;
and
adjusting the data tiering level of at least part of the data of the chunk based on the data tiering decision.
