Integrated circuit that controls transmission of uplink signals from sensor controller

An integrated circuit that controls transmission of a plurality of uplink signals from a sensor controller, the integrated circuit comprising:

• a processor;
• and
• a memory storing instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the integrated circuit to:
• alternately transmit the plurality of uplink signals from the sensor controller,
• wherein a first uplink signal of the plurality of uplink signals indicates one or more first identifiers assigned by the sensor controller to a first group of one or more active pens that is paired with the sensor controller and pairing state information indicative of a pairing state of the first group of one or more active pens with the sensor controller, and
• wherein a second uplink signal of the plurality of uplink signals indicates one or more second identifiers assigned by the sensor controller to a second group of one or more active pens that is not paired with the sensor controller and pairing state information indicative of a pairing state of the second group of one or more active pens with the sensor controller.
