Abstract
In variants, the system can include a vehicle and a set of sensor assemblies, wherein at least one of the sensor assemblies includes a set of sensors mounted to a dimensional layer configured to align and retain the sensor positioning relative to each other; and a structural layer mounting the dimensional layer and configured to structurally support and mount the dimensional layer to the vehicle.
Claims20
A sensor assembly for an autonomous vehicle, comprising:
- a frame mounted to the autonomous vehicle and spanning a roof of the autonomous vehicle;
- and
- a dimensional layer arranged physically superior to the frame, the dimensional layer comprising:
- a left mounting plate defining a first set of sensor mounting features;
- and
- a right mounting plate which is separate and distinct from the left mounting plate, the right mounting plate defining a second set of sensor mounting features, wherein the left mounting plate and right mounting plate are mounted to the frame on opposing sides of a midsagittal plane of the autonomous vehicle;
- a first solid-state lidar sensor and a second solid-state lidar sensor, each mounted to the left mounting plate via the first set of sensor mounting features;
- and
- a third solid-state lidar sensor and a fourth solid-state lidar sensor, each mounted to the right mounting plate via the second set of sensor mounting features.
A sensor assembly for an autonomous vehicle comprising a cab with a roof, the autonomous vehicle defining a longitudinal axis and a mid-sagittal plane separating a left lateral side of the roof and a right lateral side of the roof, the sensor assembly comprising:
- a frame mounted to the autonomous vehicle and extending across a width of the roof;
- and
- a plurality of sensors mounted to the frame, the plurality of sensors comprising:
- a first long-range lidar sensor positioned along a left lateral side of the roof and having a first field of view (FOV) and a first principal axis at a first yaw angle between 115° and 135° from the longitudinal axis;
- a second long-range lidar sensor positioned along the left lateral side of the roof and having a second field of view and a second principal axis at a second yaw angle between 20° and 40° from the longitudinal axis;
- a third long-range lidar sensor positioned along the right lateral side of the roof and having a third field of view and a third principal axis at a third yaw angle between 20° and 40° from the longitudinal axis;
- and
- a fourth long-range lidar sensor positioned along the right lateral side of the roof and having a fourth field of view and a fourth principal axis at a fourth yaw angle between 115° and 135° from the longitudinal axis,
- wherein each of the first, second, third, and fourth long-range lidar sensors has a horizontal field of view between 100 degrees and 140 degrees, wherein the first, second, third, and fourth fields of view collectively define a continuous region encompassing at least 300 degrees around the autonomous vehicle, wherein the first and second long-range lidar sensor are on an opposite side of the mid-sagittal plane as the second and third long-range lidar sensor.
