A method and system for gathering a number of articles with a target total weight

A system for gathering a number of articles with a target total weight, the system comprising:

• a plurality of weighing units to obtain measured weight values of articles;
• a control unit programmed to perform combinatorial calculations on the measured weight values and to select a combination of these measured weight values, a sum of the measured weight values to coincide with the target weight;
• and
• at least one collector of the articles of the selected combination, the weighing units are conveyors that are movable in at least a vertical direction relative to a work surface, the conveyors are capable of following different trajectories between at least two areas of the work surface, a first one of the at least two areas of the work surface is a loading area and a second one of the at least two areas is an unloading area, the articles to be supplied to the conveyors in the loading area, and the conveyors that are part of the selected combination to dump their content into the at least one article collector in the unloading area.
