Abstract
The present invention provides a method and system for providing on-site electrical power to a fracturing operation, and an electrically powered fracturing system. Natural gas can be used to drive a turbine generator in the production of electrical power. A scalable, electrically powered fracturing fleet is provided to pump fluids for the fracturing operation, obviating the need for a constant supply of diesel fuel to the site and reducing the site footprint and infrastructure required for the fracturing operation, when compared with conventional systems.
Claims20
A system, comprising:
- a dedicated electric power source comprising at least one transportable electric turbine generator;
- a blender tub;
- a fluid additive system;
- a fluid addition source hopper;
- an inlet electric motor driving an inlet pump in communication with a fluid additive source and configured to pump the fluid additive source into and out of the blender tub;
- an electrical transformer configured to step down voltage from the at least one transportable electric turbine generator to a voltage appropriate for one or more blender motors;
- a variable frequency drive in electrical communication with the one or more blender motors;
- and
- a control system in communication with the electric blender system, the variable frequency drive, and a fracturing fluid pump, the control system configured to regulate delivery of blended fracturing fluid from the blender tub to the fracturing fluid pump to provide fracturing fluid to a wellbore at a controlled pressure.
A method of delivering pressurized fluid to a wellbore to be fractured, comprising:
- providing a dedicated electric power source including at least one transportable electric turbine generator;
- supplying electrical power from the at least one transportable electric turbine generator through an electrical transformer configured to step down voltage to a level appropriate for one or more blender motors;
- operating a variable frequency drive in electrical communication with the one or more blender motors;
- providing an electric blender system comprising a blender tub, a fluid additive system, and a fluid addition source hopper;
- actuating an electric motor to drive an inlet pump in communication with a fluid additive source to pump the fluid additive source into and out of the blender tub;
- blending the fluid additive with a base fluid within the blender tub to form a blended fracturing fluid;
- and
- regulating, via a control system in communication with the electric blender system, the variable frequency drive, and a fracturing fluid pump, delivery of the blended fracturing fluid from the blender tub to the fracturing fluid pump to provide the fracturing fluid to a wellbore at a controlled pressure.
