Recovering selected partitions in a digital assay

Abstract

Provided are devices, systems, and methods for retention of partition during biological analysis of a sample with digital assay. The method for biological analysis of a sample includes, for example, a substrate with an array with at least 10,000 individual partitions; division of the sample by loading aliquot of the sample into the individual partitions; perform a biological analysis on each partition to generate a result for each partition; use the results of the individual partitions to select one or more of the individual partitions to be retrieved; and retrieving the contents of the selected partitions by the application of a focused vacuum or pressure device by measuring and comparing the retrieval pressure on the partition.
