A culture medium relating to the field of molecular biology and more particularly that of clinical and industrial microbiology, and for detecting microorganisms, including, as a gelling agent, a mixture of agar and kappa-carrageenan.

A culture medium for detecting microorganisms, comprising
- agar or agarose
- κ-carrageenan
- the weight ratio [agar, κ-carrageenan]:[other gelling agent] being greater than 70:30.
A culture medium comprising an agar:κ-carrageenan mixture having a weight ratio of between 80:20 and 30:70 and a gelling temperature of between 30° C. and 45° C., the weight ratio [agar, κ-carrageenan]:[other gelling agent] being greater than 70:30.
