Abstract
A GPS directed vehicle for cleaning airport runway surfaces. The vehicle uses an ultra-high pressure washer for cleaning rubber off the surfaces of the runway, and a vacuum system for the collection of debris. A GPS device allows an operator to track a cleaning line so as to allow no more than 25 mm overlap of surfaces to be cleaned. An iPad can be used to highlight Google maps for calculating a runway area to be treated. Recording allows the exact location of last treated surface area to allow exact location of an untreated surface area.
Claims10
A system for cleaning airport runway surfaces, comprising:
- a global positioning system (GPS);
- a computer coupled to the GPS;
- and
- a work vehicle, comprising:
- a frame supported by wheels;
- an engine attached to the frame and connected to a driveline for propelling the work vehicle;
- an ultra-high pressure washer mounted to the frame, the ultra-high pressure washer including at least one blaster head for placement over an airport runway surface, the ultra-high pressure washer being configured to direct ultra-high pressure water towards the airport runway surface for cleaning the airport runway surface;
- and
- a screen,
- wherein the computer is configured to convert location data provided by the GPS onto a recorded map visible on the screen, the computer being further configured, on the recorded map, to:
- (i) to generate an image of a path of travel of the work vehicle along a first portion of the recorded map, the first portion of the recorded map corresponding to a first area to be cleaned of the airport runway surface;
- and
- (ii) while the work vehicle traverses the airport runway surface, shade a second portion of the recorded map to indicate a completed pass of the airport runway surface by the work vehicle and to visually differentiate the first portion of the recorded map from the second portion of the recorded map, the second portion of the recorded map corresponding to a second area of the airport runway surface that has been cleaned with at least the completed pass of the airport runway surface by the work vehicle.
