Absorbent, breathable and pathogen blocking/killing wound care dressing and fabrication thereof

A laminate for dressing wounds, comprising:

• a first layer capable of trapping pathogens comprising pollen, mold spores, and fungal spores;
• a second layer adjacent to the first layer and capable of trapping and killing pathogens comprising bacteria and viruses, which second layer comprises a size-exclusion barrier and germicidal ions;
• a third layer adjacent to the second layer and capable of blocking the germicidal ions from the second layer;
• a fourth layer adjacent to the third layer and capable of absorbing and retaining fluid;
• and
• a fifth layer adjacent to the fourth layer and capable of maintaining non-adherent contact with a wound during use of the laminate.

A wound dressing comprising:

• multiple woven or unwoven mesoporous or macroporous membranes;
• one or more carbon composite;
• and
• one or more absorption material comprising carbon, one or more polymer and one or more binding material, wherein the absorption material comprises germicidal ions impregnated therein.
