Abstract
A method of treating diverticulitis and the diverticulum by reducing the bioactivity of the diverticulum such that the diverticulum necroses. The devices and methods include placing an endoscopic device within a colonic lumen relative to at least one diverticulum and inverting the diverticulum. Once inverted, the diverticulum is collapsed and sealed. Overtime, the inverted diverticulum will necrose and be absorbed by the body or slough off and be expelled.
Claims20
A system for treating a target tissue, comprising:
- an endoscopic device including a shaft extending distally from a main body of the endoscopic device, the shaft including one or more channels;
- and
- a treatment device configured to extend from the main body and into one channel of the one or more channels, the treatment device including:
- a needle including:
- a needle body including a needle body lumen;
- a needle tip at a distal portion of the needle body;
- and
- one or more arms coupled to an outer surface of the needle body, the one or more arms configured to transition from an unexpanded position to an expanded position;
- wherein in the unexpanded position the one or more arms are positioned along the outer surface of the needle body;
- wherein in an expanded position, the one or more arms extend away from the outer surface of the needle body.
An endoscopic device, comprising:
- a main body including a handle;
- and
- a shaft extending from the main body, the shaft including:
- a working portion along a distal end of the shaft;
- an optical imaging system located proximate to the distal end of the shaft;
- one or more channels extending within the shaft;
- and
- one or more devices translatably positioned within the one or more channels, the one or more devices including:
- a needle including:
- a needle body including a needle body lumen;
- and
- one or more arms rotatably coupled an outer surface of the needle body;
- wherein the one or more arms are configured to rotate from a position proximate to the outer surface to a position removed from the outer surface.
A medical device, comprising:
- a shaft including:
- one or more channels extending through the shaft;
- a working end proximate to a distal portion of the shaft, the working end including one or more openings formed along a distal portion of the shaft;
- and
- a needle translatably positioned within at least one channel of the one or more channels, the needle including:
- a needle body including a needle lumen extending axially within the needle and a needle tip at a distal portion of the needle;
- and
- at least one expandable arm coupled proximate to the needle tip, the at least one expandable arm including an inner side proximate to the needle body and an outer side;
- wherein the needle tip is configured to pierce tissue;
- wherein the needle is configured to extend from one opening of the one or more openings;
- and
- wherein the at least one expandable arm is configured to move away from the needle body when the needle is extended from the one opening.
