Abstract
The ectoparasite eradicating device is configured to eradicate lice and eggs by conveying and directing heated air to the base of the hair shaft where lice live and lay egg by connecting to a common commercially available blow dryer. The device includes a rotatable sleeve to facilitate maintenance of contact of the lower concave edge with the scalp over a range of movements of the blow dryer. A plate with a flow disrupting lip separates the hot air flow from the scalp to avoid burning, while ensuring effective treatment of the hair to the root at the edge of the plate.
Claims20
An apparatus, comprising:
- a conduit, configured to receive a flow of heated gas;
- a rotatable sleeve joint;
- and
- a nozzle configured to direct a flow of ejected gas, connected to the conduit via the rotatable sleeve joint, the nozzle comprising;
- a series of parallel plates extending from a hollow shell;
- a lower edge of each parallel plate defining an interrupted surface;
- and
- a deflector configured to deflect the flow of heated gas from the hollow shell and passing around the series of parallel plates away from the interrupted surface.
An apparatus, comprising:
- a tubular adapter configured to connect to a tube;
- a rotatable sleeve, attached to the tubular adapter at an angle of between 15-60 degrees;
- and
- a diffuser, linked to the rotatable sleeve, comprising:
- a shroud;
- a comb comprising a series of parallel sheets;
- and
- a plate parallel forming a surface perpendicular to and interspersed in the series of parallel sheets, configured to induce a flow of air under the plate when air is flowing above the plate, the plate having at least one element configured to interrupt a laminar air flow above the plate.
A method for treating ectoparasites in hair, comprising:
- providing a flow of hot air at a temperature of at least 120° F. through a conduit having a first axis, the conduit being connected to a comb unit with a rotatable sleeve joint;
- moving the comb unit through the hair over a scalp, to heat the ectoparasites;
- inducing a flow of cold air under a plate, to thereby introduce a cold air layer between the scalp and the hot air flow, and inducing turbulence at a distal edge of the plate along an axis parallel to the flow of hot air exiting the comb unit;
- whereby ectoparasites in the hair are killed, without burning the scalp.
