Electrochemical assembly

An electrochemical assembly comprising:

• a first gas manifold plate defining a first end;
• a second gas manifold plate spaced apart from the first gas manifold plate and defining a second end;
• a plurality of electrochemical cell repeating units disposed between the first gas manifold plate and the second gas manifold plate, each electrochemical cell repeating unit including a substrate with a plurality of sub cells and an interconnect connected to the substrate, each sub cell including an anode layer, a cathode layer, and an electrolyte layer disposed between the anode layer and cathode layer;
• a plurality of risers integrally formed around an outer perimeter of each substrate and interconnect of each electrochemical cell repeating unit, the plurality of risers including at least two inlet risers and at least two outlet risers in fluid communication with the electrochemical cell repeating units.

An electrochemical device comprising:

• a metal sheet substrate;
• isolated porous metal structures disposed on the substrate;
• an anode layer disposed on the isolated porous metal structures;
• an electrolyte layer disposed on the anode layer;
• a cathode layer disposed on the electrolyte layer;
• and
• a flow field design comprising a plurality of risers disposed on the metal sheet substrate, the plurality of risers including at least two inlet risers and at least two outlet risers in fluid communication with the isolated porous metal structures.
