Methods and Systems for Estimating the Sensitivity of Vehicle Sensors

A system comprising:

• a vehicle having a radar;
• and
• a computing device configured to:
• receive radar data which represents an environment external to the vehicle;
• detect, based on the radar data, one or more objects located in the environment that correspond to a first type of object;
• filter, based on a set of predetermined criteria, the radar data corresponding to the one or more objects to identify a particular object that corresponds to a first type of object;
• perform a comparison between a radar parameter determined based on radar data corresponding to the particular object and an expected radar parameter represented by a data model, wherein the data model is generated based on radar data aggregated for a plurality of objects that match the first type of object;
• and
• estimate radar sensitivity loss for the radar based on the comparison.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium configured to store instructions, that when executed by a computing system comprising one or more processors, causes the computing system to perform operations comprising:

• receiving radar data from a radar coupled to a vehicle, wherein the radar data represents an environment external to the vehicle;
• detecting, based on the radar data, one or more objects located in the environment;
• filtering, based on a set of predetermined criteria, the radar data corresponding to the one or more objects to identify a particular object that corresponds to a first type of object;
• performing a comparison between a radar parameter determined based on radar data corresponding to the particular object and an expected radar parameter represented by a data model, wherein the data model is generated based on radar data aggregated for a plurality of objects that match the first type of object;
• and
• estimating radar sensitivity loss for the radar based on the comparison.
