A flap assembly for an opening in a motor vehicle's contour, the flap assembly comprising a flap, a flap frame fixed to the vehicle in a ready-to-operate installed state, a guide system connected to the flap frame and having linear guide tracks, the flap frame defining an opening closable or openable by the flap, the flap being positively guided on the guide system between a closed position and an open position, the flap including rearward projecting support arms guided in a linearly mobile manner in the linear guide tracks of the guide system, the linear guide tracks being arranged such that, on movement from the closed position, the flap is first tilted about a transverse axis and is then pivoted upward in the vertical direction and into the opening of the flap frame.
