Adjustable Post Cap

A connection between a supporting structural member and a supported structural member, the connection comprising:

• a. the supporting structural member having a first attachment face, the first attachment face having first and second side edges that are substantially parallel with lateral side faces connected to the first attachment face at the first and second side edges, the supporting structural member having a second attachment face disposed opposite from the first attachment face, the second attachment face having first and second side edges where the second attachment face connects to the lateral side faces 43, the supporting structural member also having a top face upon which the supported structural member rests;
• b. the supported structural member having first and second attachment faces, a bottom face that interfaces with the top face of the supporting structural member, and an end face;
• c. a connector having a web with a first lateral side plate extending from an upper portion of the web to one side of the web and a second lateral side plate extending from an opposite side of the upper portion of the web, the connector interfacing with the first attachment face of the supporting structural member, the connector also having a longitudinal axis and the web has an upper end and a lower end, and the longitudinal axis of the connector is disposed substantially aligned with an elongated axis of the supporting structural member along which the elongated supporting structural member extends when the connection is made, the web having an exterior surface on one side of the web and an interior surface on the opposite side of the web with the interior surface of the lower portion of the web being in substantial alignment and interfacing with the first attachment face of the supporting structural member and the interior surface of the upper portion of the web being in substantial alignment and interfacing with the first attachment face of the supported structural member, the first and second lateral side plates have exterior surfaces that face outwardly from the supported and supporting structural members and interior surfaces that face the supported and supporting structural members, the upper portion of the web has first and second lateral side edges where the first and second lateral side plates connect to the upper portion of the web and the first and second lateral sides edges of the upper portion of the web are aligned with opposed first and second connection edges of the lower portion of the web, and the first and second connection edges align with the first and second side edges of the attachment face of the supporting structural member, the lower end of the web is provided with first and second side members that extend away from the web with the first and second side members connecting to the first and second connection edges respectively with the first and second side members interfacing with the lateral side faces of the supporting structural member;
• d. separate fasteners connect the first and second side members to the supporting structural member, and separate fasteners connect the lower portion of the web to the supporting structural member, and separate fasteners connect the first and second lateral side plates and the upper portion of the web to the supported structural member.
