Abstract
Embodiments are directed toward an aseptic bag filling system. In some embodiments, the aseptic bag filling system selectively and aseptically fills sterilized bags with a fluid. The bags are dispensed from a magazine that stores the bags while the bags are fluidly coupled to a fluid manifold via respective fluid pathways. The bags define a closed system, the interior of which, after sterilization, is not exposed to the external environment through filling of the bags with the fluid, sealing such filled bags, and separating or cutting such sealed bags from the manifold.
Claims8
A bag filling system configured to fill bags with a fluid, comprising:
- a manifold having a manifold inlet at a proximal end of the manifold and a manifold fluid pathway that extends from the manifold inlet to a distal end of the manifold, wherein the manifold includes a plurality of manifold T-joints between the manifold inlet and the distal end of the manifold, and wherein the T-joints are spaced along the manifold fluid pathway and are separated from each other by a predefined distance;
- and
- a plurality of unfilled sterile bags corresponding to the manifold T-joints, wherein each one of the plurality of unfilled sterile bags is fluidly coupled to a respective one of the manifold T-joints via a bag fluid pathway,
- wherein the manifold inlet includes a manifold coupling means at a proximal end of the manifold inlet,
- wherein the manifold and the plurality of unfilled sterile bags are rolled into a roll and reside in a drum bag feeder system, wherein the drum bag feeder system is configured to be secured to an aseptic bag filling system so that the manifold and the plurality of unfilled sterile bags are dispensable from the drum bag feeder system in a serial manner,
- wherein the manifold coupling means is configured to, prior to filling a first one of the plurality of unfilled sterile bags that is proximate to the manifold inlet, releasably couple to a fluid source coupling means located at a distal end of a fluid line of a fluid source and transfer fluid from the fluid source through the manifold inlet to each of the sterile bags in a serial manner while the manifold inlet remains coupled to the fluid source coupling means.
