Abstract
A method for manufacturing a container includes injecting a first material into a first mold to form a top portion of a preform. The first material and a second material are injected into the first mold to form a bottom portion of the preform. The preform is disposed in a second mold. The preform is blow molded into a finished container.

1-21. (canceled)
A container preform comprising:
- an open top;
- a closed bottom;
- a wall portion between the open top and the closed bottom, the wall portion comprising:
- an outer surface and an inner surface,
- an outer layer comprising a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) material,
- an inner layer comprising the PET material, and
- an intermediate layer between the outer and inner layers, the intermediate layer comprising a mixture of the PET material and an active oxygen scavenger material;
- wherein the active oxygen scavenger material is concentrated in the intermediate layer such that the active oxygen scavenger material forms a physical barrier resisting penetration of oxygen from the outer surface to the inner surface,
- wherein the intermediate layer comprises an upper end that is below the open top, and
- wherein the active oxygen scavenger material is less than about 1.0 wt. % of the container preform.
A preform configured to be blow-molded into a container, the preform comprising:
- an inner layer comprising a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) material;
- an outer layer comprising the PET material;
- an intermediate layer between the inner and outer layers, the intermediate layer comprising the PET material and an oxygen scavenger.
A preform configured to be blow-molded into a container, the preform comprising:
- an inner layer comprising a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) material;
- an outer layer comprising the PET material;
- an intermediate layer between the inner and outer layers, the intermediate layer comprising the PET material and polytetramethylene ether glycol (PTMEG),
- wherein the PTMEG comprises 0.05 wt %-0.5 wt % of the preform, and
- wherein the preform has a range between 3.5 b* units and 6 b* units when measured by the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) testing protocol used to determine the suitability of post-consumer containers for reuse in PET containers.
